Hamster Education

Hamster Habitat

Cage Size

Minimum 750-800 square inches of unbroken floor space.

Cage Mates

Most breeds should be kept alone. Some dwarves can cohabit in same-sex groups if introduced from birth.

Sand Baths

Useful for hygiene. Use Reptisand or baked play sand without calcium. Avoid powdery substances.

Bedding, Toys & Playthings

Safe Beddings

Paper-based unscented bedding, Kaytee Clean & Cozy, EcoBedding, some hemp-based beddings, as well as aspen shavings.

Safe Playthings

Paper towel rolls, wooden chew blocks, tunnels, hides. Avoid ingestible metal/plastic pieces.

Unsafe Beddings

Cedar/pine shavings, scented bedding, corn cob products, cotton/fluffy bedding.

Water & Diet

Staple Diet

Mazuri Lab Blocks and Higgins Sunburst for balanced nutrition.

Fresh Foods

Regularly refresh and clean water bottles.
